Fallopian tube blockage and Homeopathy

 The fallopian tubes, also known as, uterine tubes and salpinges, are two very fine tubes lined with ciliated epithelia leading from the ovaries into the uterus. In a woman’s body the tube allows passage of the egg from the ovary to the uterus and helps fertilization if sperm is present.

Causes

·       The most common cause of blockage are scar tissue and endometriosis. Scar tissue may occur following infection in the tubes. Infection can inflame the lining of the tubes. AS the infection is healing, it may lay down scar tissue. This makes the inner wall of the tube thicker which decreases the opening. The open area may become partly, or completely blocked.

·       Endometriosis is a common condition, where tissue that behaves the lining of the womb, endometrium may grow outside of the uterus. If the endometriosis is mild, this unusual tissue growth may not block the fallopian tubes. If it is a higher stage, then it is very likely that the fallopian tube will have been blocked.

·       Previous pelvic surgery may another cause especially when the fallopian tubes and ovaries are involved. The competence of the surgeon is crucial in limiting post operative damage.

Coccydynia or Coccygodynia or Tail bone pain

The last bone of the vertebral column is called coccyx. It is located deep between the buttocks above the anus.  It is a triangular shaped bone curved slightly forward. It is composed of four rudimentary vertebrae, cartilaginous at birth. The uppermost one being united by a joint to the Sacrum. In adult life these four bones are usually united into one. Ossification (hardening and turning into a single bone) being completed around the age of 30 years.   

                                                                                                                                             

The coccyx serves as an attachment site for tendons, ligaments, and muscles of the pelvic floor.  It also functions to support and stabilize a person in a sitting position. In the sitting position, the weight of the person is distributed onto both the hip bones and to the tailbone which acts as a tripod to balance and stabilize.

Inflammation of the tail bone associated with pain is called as Coccydynia or Coccygodynia. Sitting often aggravates and worsens coccyx pain. There are many causes of tail bone pain that mimics coccydynia includes sciatica, fractured tail bone, sacroilitis, shingles (rash) on the buttocks, and pilonidal cysts etc. . Symptoms include focal pain and tenderness at the tip of the tail bone. Usually, the pain is dull and achy.

Coccydynia may be caused (a) due to an injury to the coccyx  (b) due to prolonged sitting on hard surface while at work in office etc. (c) due to degenerative arthritis and, (d) due to internal injury during vaginal child birth.

Injury to tailbone is very painful and sometimes it may lead to chronic neuralgia.

Safety measures to escape coccydynia:

1. Avoid sitting for longer periods on hard surfaces such as wooden or steel chairs or floor. Try to stand and move around at least for once in an hour.

2. Eat fiber rich food to soften stools and avoid constipation.

3. Do not sit leaning backward. Try to sit straight or slightly leaning forward.

4. Obese and overweight persons have more risk of getting coccydynia and hence reduce weight by proper exercises and medicines.

5. Do not carry excessive weights and sit along with weight on your head and shoulders to avoid stress on the coccyx.

Treatment: (Leading symptoms)

1. Hypericum: Lancinating pain radiating up spine and down limbs due to injury to coccyx. Pain in nape of neck.  Pressure over sacrum. Spinal concussion. Excessive painfulness is a guiding symptom for its use. One of the best medicines for Coccydynia.

2.Causticum; Dull, drawing pain in the region of coccyx; darting and bruised feeling in the coccyx.; pain in small of back from movement; pinching and crampy pains in the lumbar region and buttocks.

3.Paris Quadrifolia: It is a very good remedy for coccydynia. Mostly recommended in neuralgia of coccyx. Pulsating and sticking when sitting. Fingers at times  feel numb.

4.Ruta: It is also a best remedy for pain in coccyx region. Pain from back down  hips and thighs. Worse lying down at night.

5.Silicea: It is also a best to remedy to be used in tailbone pain. Spinal irritation after injuries to spine. Diseases of bones 

6.Symphytum:It acts on joints. Neuralgia of coccyx. Useful in wounds penetrating to perineum and bones and non-union of fractured bones. Irritable bone at the point of fracture.

7.Arnica: It is suited to cases when any injury, however remote, seems to have caused the present trouble. After traumatic injuries, overuse of an organ, strains. Pain in tailbone. Cannot walk erect, on account of bruised pain in pelvic region.

8.Calcarea fluor; Acts on chronic lumbago; aggravated on when  trying to move, and ameliorated on movement. Intolerable pain lower part of vertebrae with burning sensation.

9.Lachesis: Neuralgia of coccyx, worse rising from sitting posture; must sit perfectly still. Pain in neck, worse cervical region. Sensation of threads stretched from back to arms, legs,eyes etc.

10.Kali Bichromicum: Cutting through loins; cannot walk; extends to groins. Pain in coccyx and sacrum extending up and down.

 Gallstones are small stones made from cholesterol, bile pigment and calcium salts, usually in a mixture that forms in the gallbladder. They are a common disorder of the digestive system, and affect around 15% of people aged 50 years and over. Somethings that may cause gallstones to form include the crystallization of excess cholesterol in bile and the failure of the gallbladder to empty completely.

Gallstones. Obstruction of the gall ducts. Fel tauri increases the duodenal secretion, emulsifies fat and increases the action of the intestines. Liquefies bile and removes the obstruction of gall ducts.

HYDRASTIS CANADENSIS

Gallstones. Catarrhal inflammation of mucous lining of gallbladder and biliary ducts. Cutting pain from liver to right scapula, worse lying on back or right side. Fullness and tenderness over liver region. Stools, white and frequent. Bitter, peppery taste in mouth. Jaundice, yellow skin. Constipation.

LEPTANDRA VIRGINICA

Gallstones. Burning in liver region. Sore, dull, burning ache over liver or near gall bladder. Jaundice. Better by lying stomach or side. Yellow coated tongue. Craving for cold drinks which aggravates burning and aching in stomach.

LYCOPODIUM CLAVATUM

Gallstone colic. Sensitive, and congested liver. Inflammation of liver. Recurrent bilious attacks with vomiting of bile. Flatulent abdomen, bloating, obliged to loosen clothes. Worse 4-8 pm. Prefers hot food and hot drinks. Craving for sweet.

MERCURIUS

Gallstone colic. Violent stitches in hepatic region, could not breathe or eructate. Worse night. Cannot lie on right side. Jaundice. Bad taste in mouth. Tongue moist and furred. Profuse salivation.  Fetid odor from mouth. Profuse sweat, but does not relieve, may even increase the suffering.

Gallstone colic. Relieves at once the violent pain if given during paroxysm.

TERMINALIA CHEBULA

Intense pain in abdomen, aggravated at night. Pain aggravated by sitting, better by lying down. Flatulence and distension of abdomen, relieved by passing flatus. Anorexia, profuse salivation, and bitter taste in mouth. Tongue is coated brown.

Gallstone colic. Liver affections secondary to uterine conditions.

Melasma in homeopathy.. Dr Dileep

 Melasma is a common acquired skin disorder that presents as bilateral, blotchy, brownish facial pigmentation.

This form of facial pigmentation was previously called chloasma, but as this derives from the Greek meaning ‘to become green’ the term melasma (brown skin) is preferred. It was also known as ‘mask of pregnancy’.

Melasma is more common in women than in men, with an onset typically between the ages of 20 and 40 years. Melasma is most common in people who tan easily or have naturally brown skin. It is less common in people with fair skin or black skin.

Melasma can have severe impact on quality of life due to its visibility.

Causes -

The cause of melasma is complex; it has been proposed to be a

·       Photoageing disorder in genetically predisposed individuals

·       Overproduction of melanin by melanocytes; either taken up by keratinocytes (epidermal melanosis) and/or deposited in the dermis (dermal melanosis, melanophages)

Factors implicated in the development of melasma include:

·       Family history: 60% report affected family members.

·       Sun exposure: Ultraviolet and visible light promote melanin production.

·       Hormones: Pregnancy and the use of oestrogen/progesterone containing oral contraceptives, intrauterine device, implants, and hormone replacement therapy, are implicated in one-quarter of affected women; thyroid disorders can be associated with melasma.

·       Medications and scented products: New targeted therapies for cancer and perfumed soaps, toiletries, and cosmetics may cause a phototoxic reaction to trigger melasma.

·       Researchers are examining the roles of stem cell, neural cell, vascular, and local hormonal factors in promoting melanocyte activation.

Symptoms -

Brown colored patches of skin appear on the forehead, temples, cheeks or above the upper lip.

Melasma can be separated into epidermal, dermal, and mixed types, depending on the level of increased melanin in the skin.

Epidermal melasma: Epidermal melasma is defined by:

·       Border: well, defined.

·       Color:  dark brown.

·       Wood lamp: appears more obvious.

·       Dermoscopy: Scattered islands of brown reticular network with dark fine granules.

·       Treatment: Usually has a good response.

Dermal melasma: Dermal melasma is defined by:

·       Border: Ill-defined.

·       Color: Light brown to blue-grey.

·       Wood lamp: No accentuation.

·       Dermoscopy: Reticuloglobular pattern, telangiectasia, arciform structures.

·       Treatment: Usually has a poor response.

Mixed melasma: Mixed melasma is the most common type, and is defined by:

·       Combination of blue-grey, light and dark brown colors.

·        Wood lamp: Mixed patterns.

·        Dermatoscopy: Mixed patterns.

·       Treatment: Usually shows a partial improvement.

HOMEOPATHY MEDICINES -

ARGENTUM NITRICUM :

Face looks sunken, old, pale and bluish. Old man’s look, sickly, sunken greyish of muddy color. Skin is brown, tense, and hard with irregular blotches.

CADMIUM SULPHURATUM :

Melasma with yellow stains on nose and cheeks. The color varies from yellowish to brown. The color gets worse from exposure to sun and wind. Itching of the face.

CAULOPHYLLUM THALICTROIDES :

Moth spots on forehead with leucorrhea. Discoloration of skin in women with menstrual and uterine disorders. Skin hot, and dry.

COPAIVA OFFICINALIS :

Brown spots on face. Presence of circumscribed lenticular patches with itching. Mottled appearance.

LYCOPODIUM CLAVATUM :

Grayish-yellow discoloration of the face, with blue circles around the eyes. Withered shrivelled copper colored eruption on face with melasma, especially in men.  Flatulent abdomen. Likes warm food and drinks. Craving for sweets.

PLUMBUM METALLICUM :

Melasma with yellow, corpse like spots on sunken cheeks. Sunken cheeks.  Skin of face is greasy and shiny. Face pale and emaciated.

PHOSPHORUS :

Melasma with circumscribed redness in one or both the cheeks with pale, sickly complexion. Burning heat and redness of cheek.  Blue rings under the eyes. Hippocratic countenance. Craves cold, iced drinks, and chocolate.

SANGUINARIA CANADENSIS :

Circumscribed red spots over malar bones. Redness and burning of cheeks.   Red blotchy eruptions, worse in spring.

SEPIA :

Saddle-like yellow discoloration on nose and cheeks. Dark circle under the eyes. Facial discoloration during pregnancy, after childbirth and menopause.  Lentigo in young women.

SULPHUR :

Skin pigmentation after local medication. Old looking spotted face. Suited to dirty, filthy people prone to skin affections. Skin is unhealthy, dry, rough, and dirty. Itching, and burning sensation on the face, worse from heat.

THUJA OCCIDENTALIS :

Skin pale, waxy, shiny, and dark under the eyes. Nettled with spider like veins. Skin looks dirty, dry, hairy with brown spots.

●Arum Triph : Pain in decayed and broken molar in lower jaw, especially left side.

●Chenopodium: When pain is relieved by sweets.

●Merc. Sol: When there is inflammation at the root of the decayed teeth. Teeth black and dirty and decay early. Pulsating toothache worse at night or in damp weather. Teeth feel elongated and sore. Worse by cold or hot application.

●Agnus Castus: Toothache from hot food or drinks.

●Hyoscyamus: Toothache with too long, too loose feeling.

●Chamomilla: When pain is. worse by warm food or drink. It is intolerable. Unbearable pain affecting the whole row of teeth with pain radiating to ears and face. Toothache absent during the day and comes on at night as the patient gets into the warm bed.

●Staphisagria: Toothache extending to eyes. Black, crumbling, carious, exfoliating teeth, very sensitive to touch and to cold drinks. Toothache during menses. Gnaw1ng at the roots of decayed eth. Toothache in decayed teeth. Worse by least touch.

●Calcarea Fluor: Is an excellent remedy for toothache when there is shortage of calcium and loss of enamel on the teeth. Toothache if any food touches the teeth.

●Plantago Major: Toothache extending to ears. The tincture of this remedy may be applied locally. It will afford immediate relief.

●Coccinella: Neuralgia of teeth, gums and mouth, worse at night.

●Oleum Ani: Toothache, better pressing the teeth together.

●Magnesia Carb: Toothache before and during menstruation, during pregnancy. Pain on the left side of the face although the roots of the teeth are perfectly sound.

●Natrum Sulph: Toothache worse from warmth and better from cold drinks and cold air. The gums separate from teeth; they get loose and fall out.

●Carbo Veg: Drawing and tearing pains in teeth from hot, cold or saltish food. Bleeding from the gums; spongy gums. Bleeding from teeth when cleaning. Separation of gums from teeth. Whole row of teeth too long and very tender.
